Dean
Davis
Dean
is a private pilot who holds instrument, commercial
and multi-engine ratings. His first solo took place
on on May 11, 1948 in a Piper J-3. He earned his private
pilot license on May 11, 1949 in Union City, Tennessee.
He currently owns a Grumman American Yankee AA-1,
tail number N6219L.
Dean served 8 years in the USNR and achieved the rank
AOU-2. He is interested in all aspects of flight,
and especially loves to "see the world from a
bird's eye" view. He has helped build a T-18
Spezio, and he worked for Piper Aircraft for many
years though he is now retired.
Flying from the west coast to the east coast of the
US in an open-cockpit Spezio is Dean's most memorable
aviation experience. The list of aircraft types he
has flown is lengthy, and he loves to tell stories
about his flying adventures. Dean is a member of the
AOPA and EAA, and he was active with Civil Air Patrol
in his "younger days". Last year, Dean was
recognized with a Wright Brothers Master Pilot award,
for his more than 50 consecutive years of safe flying.
